Julie began creating training courses and resources for First4Maths Academy in 2023 after being a Mathematics Consultant with First4Maths for 4 years. Prior to this Julie worked as a class teacher in Cheshire and Halton schools for 16 years, teaching across most of the Primary Phase, with the majority of her time being spent in EYFS and KS1. Julie was responsible for progress across school as the KS1 Phase Leader and Mathematics Subject Leader.
Julie is passionate about finding creative, cross-curricular ways to include mathematics in other subjects and to link as many mathematics lessons as possible to the topic or text that teachers are currently working on so that mathematics is purposeful and fully embedded within the wider curriculum. Within her role as a consultant, Julie inspires teachers to become reflective practitioners responding to the needs of their class. She is a firm believer in the CPA approach for all children so that the fundamental structures of mathematics are grasped from an early age. Julie is responsible for creating our popular EYFS packages as well as recording and managing our KS1 content within First4Maths Academy. Julie retains her passion for teaching and still enjoys working with children in the classroom on a regular basis. As part of this role, she loves seeing firsthand how the First4Maths Academy videos and resources are enabling all teachers to enjoy teaching mathematics again from ECTs to more experienced teachers.
